Mumbai: With the situation in West Asia calming down over the past few days, cargo ships are facing little difficulty in crossing the Strait of Hormuz. It is understood that 15–20 ships carrying chemical fertilizers have already crossed this waterway and are expected to arrive at Indian ports soon. This will help ensure the timely availability of adequate fertilizers for farmers.
According to official sources, 15 of these ships are carrying a combined stock of over 7 lakh tonnes of chemical fertilizers and raw materials used in their production. The cargo includes Urea, DAP, and sulphur. Specifically, 8 ships are carrying 3.30 lakh tonnes of Urea, 4 ships are carrying 2.50 lakh tonnes of DAP, and 3 ships are carrying 1.10 lakh tonnes of sulphur.
Additionally, five other ships have reached the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz and are likely to cross it soon; these vessels are carrying ammonia, sulphur, and Urea. The arrival of all these (20) ships in India will significantly strengthen the country's chemical fertilizer stock position.
