Pea Sowing Declines in Canada and the US

Winnipeg. Pea production is expected to fall in Canada and the US—two major producing and exporting nations—due to a reduction in the area sown this year compared to last year.
According to trade analysts, although carryover stocks remain high, a drop in production will limit the increase in supply and availability, potentially leading to a better balance between global supply and demand. The market will no longer face pressure from a stock glut.
Available data indicates that the area under pea cultivation has decreased compared to last year: in Canada, it fell from 3.51 million acres to 3.03 million acres, and in the US, it dropped from 1.62 million acres to 1.20 million acres.
Although farmers in both countries had initially planned to cultivate peas on a larger area, their plans changed due to massive existing stocks and weak market prices. Harvesting is set to begin soon in the Black Sea region—specifically in Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan—while in Canada, it will commence next month.
