International Soybean Market
As of August 5, managed money added another 29,619 contracts to their net short position, taking it to 65,930 contracts. Commercial traders’ net short position stood at 68,230 contracts by Tuesday, down 19,529 contracts on the week.
The 7-day forecast is trending higher, with rainfall of 1 to over 5 inches expected in parts of Iowa, southern Wisconsin, northern Missouri, and northwestern Illinois over the next week. Kansas, Minnesota, Indiana, and Michigan are also expected to receive nearly 1 inch.
Ahead of Tuesday’s Crop Production report, traders are projecting US soybean yield at 53 bpa, with estimates ranging from 52 to 54 bpa. Total production is expected to be 4.374 billion bushels, up 39 million bushels from the July WASDE report.
Export Sales data shows old crop soybean commitments at 51.493 MMT, which is 101% of USDA’s export projection but below the 103% average pace. Actual FAS exports are 47.887 MMT, 94% of the USDA estimate, and behind the 45% average pace.
