Sugar prices soften due to weak demand
New Delhi. Due to the start of sale of new monthly quota and weak demand from buyers, the mill delivery price and spot market price of sugar either remained stable or decreased slightly during the week of 2-8 August.
Mill Delivery Price
During this period, the mill delivery price improved by Rs 15 and Rs 20 per quintal in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh and Rs 50 per quintal in Bihar, but remained soft by Rs 10 in Madhya Pradesh. Its price in Gujarat registered a huge decline of Rs 60-70 per quintal.
Mumbai
The spot market price of sugar remained stable at the previous level in Delhi, Indore, Raipur and Mumbai (Vashi) and there was no change in its Naka Port Delivery price, but the tender price of sugar in Maharashtra and Karnataka registered a decline of Rs 40 to Rs 60 per quintal. The spot price of sugar in Kolkata improved by Rs 10-20.
Domestic market
The quota for the month of August is considered sufficient to meet the demand and requirement of the domestic market. Of course, some festivals will be celebrated in this month, which may bring some improvement in the demand for sugar, but due to monsoon rains and decrease in temperature, the consumption of sugar in the manufacture of cold drinks and ice cream etc. is likely to be limited. In view of this, there is little hope of a sharp rise in prices. The price of sugar is expected to remain stable in a certain range with limited fluctuations in the future.
Spot price
During the week of 2-8 August, the spot price of sugar was recorded at Rs 4300/4400 per quintal in Delhi, Rs 4250/4350 in Indore, Rs 4300/4350 in Raipur, Rs 4010/4210 in Mumbai and Rs 4350/4420 per quintal in Kolkata. The tender price of sugar in Maharashtra fell to Rs 3885/4030 per quintal.
