Tuvar prices soften due to sluggish demand

Mumbai. Tuvar (pigeon pea) prices have softened during the current week. This decline was recorded due to increased selling pressure at high prices in the market and weak buying. Due to weak demand for Tuvar dal, purchases by dal millers also remained limited, which further put pressure on prices. Meanwhile, Tuvar sowing is also happening at a slower pace than last time. According to the Agriculture Department, so far, tur pea has been sown in a total area of 38.3 lakh hectares across the country, whereas during the same period last year this figure was 41.1 lakh hectares. Thus, a decline of 2.80 lakh hectares i.e. about 7% has been recorded in sowing. Due to increased selling by importers and weak demand, the price of Tuvar Lemon in Chennai declined by Rs 25/50 per quintal this week and with this decline, the price remained at Rs 6250/6300 per quintal at the weekend. While, there was no increase or decrease in the prices of Mumbai African Tuvar this week and the prices remained stable at Mozambique white Rs. 5800/5850, Gajari Rs. 5600/5650, Matwara Rs. 5600, Malawi Rs. 5500 and Sudan Rs. 6350 per quintal at the end of the week.
Burma
Due to increased selling by exporters and sluggish buying, the prices of Burma Tuvar witnessed a decrease of 10 dollars per ton this week and with this increase and decrease, the prices remained stable at 720 dollars per ton at the end of the week.
Delhi
Due to the impact of port decline and sluggish buying, during the current week, Delhi Tuvar Lemon witnessed a decrease of Rs. 50 per quintal and Desi Tuvar also witnessed a decrease of Rs. 50 per quintal and with this decrease, the prices remained at Lemon Rs. 6700/6725 and Desi Rs. 6850/6900 per quintal at the end of the week. Due to slow buying and selling, prices of Maharashtra tuvar witnessed a rise and fall of Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and with this rise and fall, the prices remained at Solapur Rs. 6000/6800, Akola Rs. 6800/7000, Latur Rs. 6550/6600, Nagpur Rs. 6850/6875 and Hinganghat Rs. 6000/6700 per quintal.
Karnataka
Due to increase in buying, prices of Karnataka tuvar witnessed a rise of Rs. 100 per quintal during the current week and with this rise, the prices remained at Gulbarga Rs. 6000/6700, Raichur Rs. 5831/6577, Bidar Rs. 5111/6825, Yadgir Rs. 6001/7869 and Talikot Rs. 5901/6425 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to sluggish demand, prices of Madhya Pradesh tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal this week and with this fall, the prices remained at Katni Rs. 6700/6850, Jabalpur Rs. 5000/6400 and Pipariya Rs. 5000/6400 per quintal at the weekend.
Others
Due to weak buying, Kanpur tuvar witnessed a fall of Rs. 50 per quintal this week and the prices remained at Rs. 6650 per quintal at the weekend. While, no rise or fall was seen in the prices of Raipur tuvar this week and the prices remained stable at Rs. 6900/7100 per quintal at the weekend.
Tuvar Dal
Due to the fall in the price of Tuvar and weak buying, the prices of Tuvar Dal have fallen by Rs. 50/100 per quintal during the current week and with this fall, the prices at the weekend stood at Delhi Fatka Rs. 9700/10350, Katni Fatka Rs. 8950/9450, Akola Rs. 9100/10400, Latur Fatka Rs. 10000/10200, Gulbarga Fatka Rs. 9300/10000 and Kanpur Fatka Rs. 10400/10500 per quintal.
