ICE cotton futures shrugged off early weakness on Friday, closing 17 to 36 points higher, with December ending the week 24 points higher. The US dollar index fell \$0.134 to \$98.095, while crude oil futures were down 46 cents.
CFTC data showed that in the week of August 5, managed money added 14,791 contracts to their net short position, bringing it to -55,152 contracts as of Tuesday.
On August 6, the Cotlook A Index fell 25 points to 78.00 cents. On August 7, ICE cotton stocks fell by 3,375 bales through decertifications, bringing certified stocks to 18,242 bales. USDA’s Adjusted World Price (AWP) was down 13 points on Thursday afternoon to 54.39 cents per pound.
