Improvement in Paddy Arrivals; Mixed Trend in Rice Prices
New Delhi: Signs of increased arrivals of Basmati paddy and 'A' grade non-Basmati paddy are emerging in key markets, including Amritsar and Tarn Taran (Punjab), Tarawari (Haryana), Narela (Delhi), Bhatapara and Rajim (Chhattisgarh), and Jahangirabad (Uttar Pradesh).
Rajasthan
Additionally, some paddy arrivals are being reported in other centers, including Kota in Rajasthan. During the week of August 29 to September 4, Punjab witnessed heavy paddy arrivals; driven by strong demand from millers and processors, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy rose by ₹141 to reach ₹2,026 per quintal.
Bhatapara
While paddy prices saw a slight increase in the Rajim market, the price of the 'Mahamaya' variety softened by ₹100 in Bhatapara. In the Narela market, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy improved by ₹21.
Rice
Regarding rice, price fluctuations were observed across various varieties and grades, reflecting supply and demand dynamics. In Bhatapara, the prices of HMT and Swarna rice increased by ₹100 per quintal each, whereas the price of Shriram rice dropped by ₹200.
Punjab / Amritsar
Meanwhile, rice demand remained somewhat weak in Amritsar, causing a ₹100 per quintal decline in the prices of certain varieties. Prices for other categories remained stable.
Uttarakhand
Rice prices remained steady in the Nagar market of Uttarakhand, and no changes were observed in the Rajim market of Chhattisgarh. In the market, the price of Sugandha rice fell by ₹150, settling at ₹7,600–₹7,650 per quintal.
Delhi
In Delhi's Naya Bazar, trading activity in certain rice varieties was robust, leading to a price increase of ₹100 per quintal; however, prices for some other varieties softened by ₹100–200 per quintal. While non-basmati rice exports from India are performing well, the export performance of basmati rice has not been particularly encouraging.
