Melbourne. Lentil exports from Australia to India stood at 4,933 tonnes in March and a mere 2,275 tonnes in April, as India was witnessing a strong influx of the new domestic crop at the time, which exerted some downward pressure on prices.
However, as the pace of supply slowed, imports of Australian lentils surged to 53,444 tonnes in May 2026, bringing the total import volume for the March–May 2026 quarter to 60,652 tonnes.
Despite this, India ranked third among importers of Australian lentils, trailing behind Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. During the quarter under review, Australia exported over 109,000 tonnes of lentils to Bangladesh and approximately 80,000 tonnes to Sri Lanka.
In addition to these three nations, Australia exported 41,923 tonnes to the United Arab Emirates, 37,046 tonnes to Pakistan, 25,520 tonnes to Nepal, 8,712 tonnes to Egypt, and 2,950 tonnes to Malaysia during the March–May 2026 period. Total shipments of lentils from Australia during this quarter amounted to approximately 366,000 tonnes.
