News Capsule: Northeast Monsoon Floods 16,000 Hectares of Farmland in Tamil Nadu: Agriculture Minister
★ Tamil Nadu’s Agriculture Minister stated that around 16,000 hectares of farmland have been submerged due to ongoing northeast monsoon rains. He added that compensation will be provided to farmers in areas where more than 33% of the crop area has been damaged.
★ He noted that earlier, paddy sacks were stored in open spaces, but the current government is ensuring that all stocks are safely and properly stored. The government has so far procured a larger quantity of paddy and is preparing additional storage facilities for farmers.
★ A deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, near the Tamil Nadu coast, has brought heavy rainfall to several parts of the state, leading to widespread waterlogging in agricultural fields.
