Saskatoon. Pea prices remain largely stable amid limited trading in markets across Western Canada, particularly Saskatchewan, the leading producer. Yellow peas are hovering between $7.00 and $7.35 per bushel.

In southeastern Saskatchewan, they could reach $7.50 per bushel, provided the yellow peas do not contain residues of chemicals such as glyphosate or glufominate.

Green peas have improved to between $9.50 and $10.00 per bushel, representing No. 2 quality produce with a flat kernel content of more than 3 percent. Maple peas are reported to be indicatively priced between $9 and $11 per bushel in various regions.

China's tariffs are Canada's biggest threat to pea exports, while Russia also poses a significant challenge. There is currently no import duty on yellow peas in India, but the pace of imports has slowed due to the presence of backstocks there. A 100 percent customs duty is imposed on Canadian peas in China.

Canada has seen a good pea production this year, which has increased exportable stocks, but global demand is weak, putting pressure on prices.

Canada is facing stiff competition from Russia and Ukraine in the international pea export market. Russia has also produced a good pea crop and is aggressively exporting its produce by reducing prices. This is forcing Canada to also reduce prices.
