Coimbatore. Heavy northeast monsoon rains in Tamil Nadu, the southernmost state of the country, have inundated approximately 16,000 hectares of agricultural land, causing significant crop damage.
A state minister has stated that farmers will receive adequate compensation where crop damage exceeds 33%. Harvesting, especially for the Kharif season, is in full swing in Tamil Nadu, with significant arrivals and purchases at government procurement centers.
Under the previous government, sacks of paddy were left lying around in the open, but this time the government is ensuring that the entire stock of procured paddy is properly stored.
The current government has procured a significant amount of paddy from farmers and is developing and expanding additional storage facilities to support them.
Over the past four and a half years, the government has taken several steps to strengthen, transparent, and streamline the paddy procurement process.
Previously, only 600-700 bales of sacks were purchased, but now the number has been increased to 1,000 bales.
Paddy procurement has been completed in two or three districts, while it has reached its final stages in other districts. Paddy is being safely stored.
