News Capsule: FCI Raises 2025–26 Kharif Rice Procurement Target
★ The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has increased its kharif marketing season (October–September) rice procurement target for 2025–26 to 47.75 million tonnes, up from the earlier 46.35 million tonnes.
★ So far, FCI has procured 46.5 million tonnes of rice, achieving more than 97% of the revised target.
★ The upward revision includes procurement of upgraded quality rice with 10% broken grain content from Andhra Pradesh under a new scheme. Previously, rice with up to 25% broken grain content was allowed for procurement. The new scheme focuses on better quality rice.
★ Andhra Pradesh’s procurement target has been raised from 1.6 million tonnes to 3.0 million tonnes, of which 2.97 million tonnes has already been procured.

State-wise Position
★ Telangana: 4.81 million tonnes (exceeding the 3.6 million tonne target)
★ Haryana: 4.16 million tonnes (above the 3.6 million tonne target)
★ Punjab: 10.48 million tonnes (slightly below the 11.6 million tonne target)
★ Chhattisgarh: Over 14 million tonnes of paddy procured, expected to yield 9.39 million tonnes of rice
★ Procurement operations in Chhattisgarh have been extended from January 31 to April 30.

Overall Status
★ Total paddy procurement so far stands at 69.4 million tonnes.
★ Around 4.21 million tonnes of custom-milled rice is yet to be received from millers.
★ Chhattisgarh alone is expected to supply 9.39 million tonnes of rice, higher than its target of 7.3 million tonnes.
