News Capsule: Argentina Completes Soybean Harvest; Record Corn Crop Still Delayed
★ Argentina has nearly completed its 2025-26 soybean harvest, with production estimated at 50.1 million tonnes (Mt), slightly below last season's 50.3 Mt. However, the average soybean yield rose to 3.13 tonnes per hectare, over 5% higher than last year.
★ Corn harvesting, meanwhile, has been delayed by persistent rainfall and waterlogged fields. As of July 7, only 56.4% of the crop had been harvested. Despite the slow pace, higher yields and increased planted area are expected to lift corn production to a record 64 Mt, up 30.6% from last year.
★ Wet weather has also slowed winter crop planting. Wheat sowing reached 87.9% and barley 67.6% of the projected area by July 7. While wheat production is forecast at 21.3 Mt, down from last season's record, barley output is expected to remain steady at around 5.3 Mt.
