This is expected to furher reduce the overall acreage under urad.

★ Given the current weather conditions and crop situation, urad production is likely to decline sharply compared with last year. Unless there is a significant improvement in rainfall over the coming weeks, the production outlook is expected to worsen further.

★ The anticipated shortfall in domestic production could force India to import record volumes of urad from Myanmar and Brazil. However, rising global demand and India's increased import requirements are also likely to push import prices higher.

★ Market participants believe that if domestic production falls substantially, imports alone may not be sufficient to meet India's consumption demand. This could keep domestic supplies tight throughout the marketing season.
