Guwahati: The National Edible Oils Promotion Association (NEPA)—a key organization representing the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade—will host a two-day conclave on September 19–20, 2026, at the Mayfair Spring Valley Resort in Sonapur, Assam. The primary objective of this event is to bring together industry stalwarts, traders, researchers, progressive farmers, and other stakeholders onto a single platform. The conclave aims to focus on the development and promotion of the entire edible oil sector—including mustard oil—while exploring opportunities, exchanging knowledge and information, and fostering a spirit of mutual cooperation.

Domestic demand and consumption of mustard oil—the most prominent oilseed crop of the Rabi season—are rising rapidly. Simultaneously, exports of mustard oil cake (DOC) are also increasing.

To meet the growing demand for mustard oil, it has become essential to boost domestic mustard production; however, the yield of this vital oilseed has stagnated within a certain range over the past few years, a trend that needs to be reversed.

The Association's President stated that a 'NEPA Delegates' WhatsApp group has been created to facilitate collaboration and coordination by providing the latest information. Updates regarding NEPA can be accessed through this WhatsApp group.

The NEPA Secretary noted that Assam is a significant mustard-producing state in Eastern India, and hosting the conclave there will provide a boost to the region. The four major mustard-producing states in Eastern India include West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, and Bihar.
