Green Lentil Prices Soften in Canada Amid Limited Trading

Saskatoon. The lentil market in Western Canada is softening as the summer season approaches. There is a lack of buyers for both large (bold) and small green lentils.

The few active buyers are focusing on contracts for August-September delivery—a period when the harvest of the new lentil crop is set to begin.

The FOB farm-gate price for large green lentils for the June-September delivery period has dropped to between 21 and 23 cents per pound, whereas the contract price for the upcoming new crop—covering deliveries from September to December 2026—is reported at 23–24 cents per pound.

Prices for small green lentils have fallen even further to just 17–18 cents per pound, while the rate for the next crop is quoted at 22–23 cents per pound. This trend runs counter to typical market dynamics, as prices for existing stocks usually remain higher than those for the new crop.

Meanwhile, prices for current stocks of red lentils remain firm at 24–25 cents per pound, with contract prices for the next crop holding steady at 23–24 cents per pound. Lentil sowing in Saskatchewan is nearing completion.
