Indonesia Retains First Rank in Edible Oil Supply to India

Mumbai. Data compiled by Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SOAI), a leading industry organization, shows that during the entire period of the last marketing season, from November 2024 to October 2025, India imported approximately 160.11 lakh tonnes of edible oil,

including 10.20 lakh tonnes of RBD palmolein, 65.02 lakh tonnes of crude palm oil (CPO), 61 thousand tonnes of crude palm kernel oil, 48.09 lakh tonnes of crude soybean oil, 6.60 lakh tonnes of refined soybean oil, 28.80 lakh tonnes of crude sunflower oil, 57 thousand tonnes of refined sunflower oil, and 6 thousand tonnes of crude rapeseed oil.

Indonesia ranked first, Argentina second, Malaysia third, and Russia fourth in India's edible oil exports during the entire 2024-25 marketing season.

Apart from this, edible oil was also imported from some other countries including Brazil, Thailand, Nepal, Ukraine, USA and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to available data, during the marketing season 2024-25 (November-October), India imported 35.87 lakh tonnes from Indonesia, 28.02 lakh tonnes from Malaysia, 8.43 lakh tonnes from Thailand, 35.09 lakh tonnes from Brazil, 11.67 lakh tonnes from Russia,

17.45 lakh tonnes from Russia, 5.93 lakh tonnes from Ukraine, 2.07 lakh tonnes from USA, 7.46 lakh tonnes from Nepal, 79 thousand tonnes from UAE and 7.32 lakh tonnes from other countries of the world.

Only refined category edible oil was imported from Nepal which included 23 thousand tonnes of RBD palmolein, 6.60 lakh tonnes of refined soybean oil and 57 thousand tonnes of refined sunflower oil.

After a five-year gap, 6,000 tons of rapeseed oil were imported in the 2024-25 marketing season. Edible oil imports rose from 15.963 million tons in the 2023-24 marketing season to 16.011 million tons in the 2024-25 marketing season. Previously, there were expectations of a slight decrease in edible oil imports.
