Mumbai. While imports of RBD palmolein from countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand slowed following the increase in the import duty difference between crude and refined edible oils, imports of refined edible oils from Nepal remained unaffected, with large quantities continuing to be imported duty-free.
Despite this, India's total refined edible oil imports during the entire 2024-25 marketing season (November-October) declined to 1,737,228 tonnes, a decrease of nearly 200,000 tonnes from the 2023-24 season's total imports of 1,931,254 tonnes. Previously, India imported 2,106,645 tonnes of refined oil in 2022-23 and 1,840,540 tonnes in the 2021-22 marketing season.
In June 2025, 229,360 tons of refined edible oil were imported into the country, but after that, the quantity did not reach even 100,000 tons in any month until October.
According to available data, refined edible oil imports were recorded at 71,896 tons in July, 64,401 tons in August, 53,000 tons in September, and 48,000 tons in October 2025. If imports from Nepal had been restricted, the quantity could have decreased even further.
