Fennel prices are rising: no downturn expected
13-Nov-2025 07:06 PM
New Delhi. Fennel prices are currently trading at a high level. Although fennel exports declined significantly in the early stages of the current season, exporters are currently seeing an improvement in purchasing. Arrivals in markets have also declined, and there are also reports of lower sowing at growing centers. Consequently, fennel prices are expected to remain firm in the coming days. There is no immediate possibility of a downturn in prices. I Grain India also wrote in its October 31 issue that fennel prices are not declining. At that time, the export price of fennel was ₹78/79 per kg, which has now risen to ₹85/86. Given the current situation, a rise to ₹8/10 per kg is possible in the coming days. Since there are still about 4-5 months left for the new crop to arrive, a decrease in the sowing area is also being predicted. According to recent data released by the Gujarat Agriculture Department, fennel was sown on 913 hectares in the state as of November 10th, compared to 1,432 hectares during the same period last year. Last year, the total fennel area in Gujarat was 45.28 thousand hectares. In addition to Gujarat, fennel is also sown in Rajasthan. This year, fennel sowing in Rajasthan is also expected to be affected. Last year, fennel sowing in Rajasthan was on 38.22 thousand hectares.
Arrivals
Currently, fennel arrivals are limited in the markets of producing centers. However, due to a recent improvement in prices by ₹200-300 per quintal, there has been a slight increase in arrivals. According to reports, a week ago, the arrival of fennel in Unjha, Gujarat's main market, was around 2,000 bags, which has now increased to 2,500/2,800 bags. Currently, the average quality fennel price in Unjha market is quoted at ₹7,500/₹8,500.
Slowdown-Rise
Sources believe that a decline in fennel prices is unlikely, as most of the total production has arrived in the markets. It is estimated that farmers have 20-25 percent of their outstanding dues, which will gradually come to the market as prices rise, as the new crop will arrive in February-March.
Decreased Exports
After record fennel exports during 2024-25, fennel exports declined sharply in the first five months of 2025-26. During the first five months (April-August 2025), fennel exports declined by 66 percent compared to the previous year. Revenues also declined by 53 percent. According to data released by the Spices Board, fennel exports during April-August 2025 amounted to 15,670 tons, with export revenues of ₹201 crore. In contrast, during April-August 2024, fennel exports amounted to 46,245 tons, with export revenues of ₹427.54 crore. During 2024-25 (April-March), fennel exports reached a record 76,586 tons, with revenues of ₹765.44 crore.
