Indonesia Likely to Lift Ban on Indian Peanut Imports Soon
★ An Indonesian delegation is expected to visit India by the end of this month to pave the way for lifting Jakarta’s ban on peanut imports from India.
★ Indonesia had suspended imports of Indian peanuts from September 3, following a notification issued on August 27 citing the presence of aflatoxin—a fungal toxin commonly found in grains and oilseeds.
★ The Chairman of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said that Indonesia has responded positively to India’s communication and agreed to send an inspection team. After the team’s visit and assessment, the suspension is likely to be lifted.
