India Emerging as Major Exporter of Kabuli Chickpeas
★ Turkey’s Chickpea Imports Jump 38% in May
★ According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT), Turkey imported a total of 30,039 metric tons (MT) of chickpeas in May 2025, up 38% from 21,845 MT in April. So far in the current calendar year, Turkey’s total chickpea imports have reached 133,000 MT, compared to 137,000 MT during the same period last year.
★ Russia was the leading supplier in May, exporting 18,566 MT to Turkey. India ranked second with 6,314 MT, followed by Mexico at 3,025 MT.

India’s Rising Exports:
★ India is rapidly emerging as a significant exporter of Kabuli chickpeas.
In April 2025, India exported 36,656 MT of Kabuli chickpeas, a 64% increase over April 2024’s 22,341 MT.
★ During the financial year 2023–24, India exported 99,158 MT, which rose sharply to 1.31 lakh MT in FY 2024–25.
★ This strong growth indicates India’s expanding presence in key markets like Turkey and its emergence as a major global supplier of Kabuli chickpeas. With upcoming domestic festive demand and robust export interest, prices are expected to find further support in the near future.
