Mustard Prices Rise Amidst Robust Trading Activity

New Delhi: Despite heavy arrivals in key markets (mandis) across major producing states, mustard prices recorded a rise of ₹100–200 per quintal during the week spanning April 25 to May 1. Driven by strong demand and firm prices for mustard oil and oilcake (Khal), millers are showing no hesitation in purchasing mustard even at elevated rates. Consequently, farmers are realizing attractive returns.
42% Condition Mustard
During the week under review, the price of 42% condition mustard rose by ₹150 in Delhi, reaching ₹6,850 per quintal, while in Jaipur, it increased by ₹100 to touch ₹7,300 per quintal. Similarly, an increase of ₹350 was recorded in the prices of average-quality mustard at the Bundi market in Rajasthan. Prices in Newai/Tonk also firmed up by ₹225.
Gujarat / Rajasthan / UP
Although prices declined by ₹2,025 per quintal at the Deesa market in Gujarat, an upward trend was observed in most markets across Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. In Bharatpur, mustard prices rose by ₹170, while an increase of ₹150 was recorded in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Since prices in almost all markets are currently trading above the Minimum Support Price (MSP), government agencies such as NAFED and HAFED have met with limited success in procuring mustard directly from farmers.
Mustard Oil
Driven by the rise in mustard seed prices, prices for both 'Expeller' and 'Kacchi Ghani' varieties of mustard oil recorded an uptick of ₹1–2 per kilogram. However, in Delhi, the price of Expeller oil remained stable at ₹1,415 per 10 kilograms. Meanwhile, in Bharatpur, the price of Kacchi Ghani mustard oil rose by ₹25, reaching ₹1,450 per 10 kilograms.

Mustard Cake (DOC)
Robust trading activity was observed in mustard cake and DOC, fostering a bullish sentiment in prices. An appreciation of ₹100–200 per quintal was recorded in mustard cake prices, while DOC values witnessed an improvement of ₹1,000–2,000 per tonne. Importers from China remain active in the Indian market.
