Sharp Rise in Soybean Plant Delivery Prices Driven by Buying from Crushing Mills

New Delhi: Driven by robust buying from crushing and processing units, soybean plant delivery prices witnessed a significant surge during the week of April 25 to May 1 across the top three producing states: Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
MSP
This price increase was recorded at ₹125 to ₹275 per quintal in Madhya Pradesh, ₹200 to ₹400 per quintal in Maharashtra, and ₹300 per quintal in Rajasthan. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for soybean has been fixed at ₹5,328 per quintal this season, whereas the plant delivery price has surged to levels significantly above ₹6,000 per quintal. This development offers substantial relief to farmers and also provides government agencies with the opportunity to offload their stocks at profitable rates.
Plant Delivery Prices
However, the prices of refined soybean oil failed to rise in tandem with the strong upward trend observed in soybean plant delivery prices. Fluctuations of ₹5 to ₹10 per kilogram were observed in refined soybean oil prices, while in some units in Maharashtra, prices even softened by up to ₹20 per 10 kilograms.
Soy Oil (Refined)
During the week under review, refined soybean oil prices remained stable at their previous levels of ₹1,450 per 10 kilograms in Mumbai and ₹1,470 per 10 kilograms in Haldia. Meanwhile, prices in Kota rose by ₹10 to reach ₹1,510 per 10 kilograms, whereas in Kandla, they declined by ₹5 to settle at ₹1,480 per 10 kilograms. In the global market, soybean oil prices remained either stable or slightly soft; however, an increase in tariff values coupled with a depreciation of the Rupee resulted in slightly higher import costs.
Arrivals
Markets in the major producing states are receiving an average daily supply of 130,000 to 135,000 bags (100 kg each) of soybeans, and nearly the entire quantity is being traded. Although soybean oil prices have remained stable or softened, a sharp increase of ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 per tonne has been recorded in the prices of Soy DOC (De-oiled Cake) in Maharashtra.
