Bhopal. The Union Agriculture Minister has stated that under the Pulses Self-Reliance Mission, vigorous efforts will be made to expand the value chain, and newly developed pulse seeds will now be released to farmers for commercial cultivation at the provincial level, not in Delhi.
Last week, the Agriculture Minister launched the national "Pulse Revolution." According to the Agriculture Minister, importing pulses from abroad is not a matter of pride but a matter of shame, and therefore, it is necessary to stop imports.
It is noteworthy that India has been the world's leading producer, consumer, and importer of pulses for several years. According to the Agriculture Minister, a new system for the development, improvement, and distribution of new seeds will be introduced under the Pulses Mission, and efforts will be made to market them directly.
Newly developed and improved pulse seeds will be made available to farmers through cluster models. Farmers who connect with these customers will be provided with a pulse seed kit and financial assistance at the rate of ₹10,000 per hectare. The government is focusing increasingly on promoting model farming.
The Agriculture Minister stated that through quality and improved seeds, improved technology, and adequate financial support, pulse production in the country can be increased to new heights. India must first become self-sufficient in pulses and then focus on exports.
The government's intention is to move India from the category of the largest importer of pulses to the list of the largest exporters, and the Pulses Mission will work with this vision.
