ICE cotton futures posted front-month losses of 12 to 94 points, while deferred contracts gained 2 to 68 points. December cotton fell 505 points during the week. Crude oil prices were down 8 cents per barrel, while the U.S. Dollar Index was up 0.240. The market will be closed Monday for Labor Day.
According to CFTC data, as of Tuesday, managed money’s net long position in cotton futures and options moved close to a record level, increasing by 12,135 contracts to 107,976 contracts.
According to Export Sales data, total U.S. upland cotton export sales for 2026/27 have reached 4.36 million running bales, up 19% from the same period last year. This represents 38% of the USDA export projection but remains behind the five-year average of 45%.
The Cotlook A Index fell 250 points on Thursday to 98.25 cents per pound. ICE certified cotton stocks were unchanged on September 3 at 63,092 bales. The Adjusted World Price was raised by another 240 points on Thursday to 73.92 cents per pound.
