Chana Market Update: Festive Demand Brings a Mild Recovery — But Will the Rally Sustain? ★ MSP: Rs 5,875 per quintal (up by Rs 225 from last year) ★ In the major domestic chana markets, prices during the week ending 4 October 2025 showed a mild upward movement compared to the previous week (27 September 2025). However, compared to the averages of August and July 2025, most centers are still trading lower. Delhi (Rajasthan Chana): ★ Prices increased from Rs 5,750 to Rs 5,925 per quintal — a gain of Rs 175 over the week. Yet, it remains Rs 200 below the August average of Rs 6,125 and Rs 425 below the July average of Rs 6,350. Katni: ★ Chana prices rose from Rs 5,750 to Rs 5,850 per quintal, a weekly rise of Rs 100. Compared to the August average of Rs 6,075, prices are still Rs 225 lower, and Rs 400 below the July average of Rs 6,250. Latur (Annagiri): ★ Prices climbed from Rs 5,400 to Rs 5,500 per quintal — a Rs 100 weekly gain. Yet, they remain Rs 550 below the August average of Rs 6,050 and Rs 900 below the July average of Rs 6,400. Mumbai: ★ Tanzania-origin chana prices moved up slightly from Rs 5,450 to Rs 5,500 per quintal, a Rs 50 increase. Compared to August’s Rs 5,825 average, prices are down Rs 325, and Rs 725 lower than July’s Rs 6,225 average. ★ Australian chana gained Rs 150 to Rs 5,700 per quintal (from Rs 5,550). However, it remains Rs 350 lower than the August average of Rs 6,050 and Rs 625 below the July average of Rs 6,325. ~~~~~~~~~ International Market (C&F $/MT): ★ Australian chana declined by $10 to $500 per tonne (from $510). ★ Tanzania chana fell sharply by $95, from $570 to $475 per tonne. ~~~~~~~~~ Market Analysis: ★ Festive demand and lower import arrivals have supported a mild rebound in domestic chana prices this week, though international prices continue to face pressure. ★ Compared to August and July, Indian markets are still trading below earlier highs. ~~~~~~~ Import Data: ★ Between April and July 2025, India imported only 27,801 tonnes of chana — almost half the volume imported during the same period last year. ★ Exports from Australia are expected to begin again in November, with arrivals likely at Indian ports by December. ★ As of 23 September, around 2.8 lakh tonnes of imported chana stock was available at ports, which is gradually being consumed. ★ Market sentiment is turning positive, and prices are expected to strengthen further in November–December. ★ However, pressure from other ministries to increase import duties remains, and it remains to be seen whether the government modifies import regulations in the coming weeks.
