We need to be cautious of America's corn conspiracy

Mumbai. The ongoing conflict between India and the United States is not involving the use of ammunition or missiles, but rather, through tariffs, America is desperately trying to force India to accept its terms.

At the heart of this is maize, which is now used for a variety of purposes, including animal feed, poultry feed, starch, and ethanol production. Maize is also being used extensively for human food.

India bans the production, use, import, and trade of GM maize, while 96 percent of the maize produced in the United States is GM.

The United States is the world's leading producer and exporter of maize. Many other countries, including China, have drastically reduced their purchases of maize from the United States, which has increased its concerns and difficulties.

In light of this, the United States wants to increase its exports to India and is therefore exerting various pressures on India, but India is unwilling to yield.

It's not difficult to understand that the US will resort to any tactic to achieve its objective. Surprisingly, even in India, there is a section that supports the import of corn from the US.

In 2024, the US produced approximately 15 billion bushels of corn, equivalent to 383 million tons. Of this, it managed to export approximately 62 million tons, valued at $137 billion.

Corn is produced extensively in the US Midwest region. Meanwhile, India produces 35-36 million tons of corn annually, and approximately the same amount is consumed domestically, so there is very little need for imports from abroad. The enthusiasm and interest of Indian farmers in corn cultivation is increasing, which is a good sign.
