Turvar market declines under pressure from profit-booking sales, weak buying, and rising arrivals

Mumbai. The turvar market witnessed a softening trend during the current week. Turvar prices declined due to increased profit-booking sales at elevated prices and weak demand. Limited activity by traders and stockists at higher levels kept the buying environment sluggish in the market. Due to weaker-than-expected offtake of tur dal, purchases by dal millers were also limited, directly impacting raw tur dal prices. Millers are purchasing only as per their needs and avoiding large stockpiles, which has continued to exert pressure on the market. With the approaching festivals, farmers have increased selling to meet their cash needs. This has increased pressure on tur dal arrivals in producing markets, maintaining a strong supply-side market. The combined effect of increasing arrivals and weak demand has led to a downward trend in prices. Government procurement (MSP) of tur (tur) in Maharashtra is expected to accelerate after Holi. If government agencies actively increase procurement, the market may find support at lower levels, and prices are likely to stabilize.
