Signs of Decline in Coriander Production: Prices Not Significantly Slow
New Delhi. Reports indicate that coriander production in the country will be lower this year compared to last year due to a decrease in sowing area in the major producing states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Rajasthan during the current season. Currently, the arrival of new coriander has begun at producing centers. Arrivals in Gujarat's markets are in full swing, while arrivals in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan's markets will increase in March. In Gondal, Gujarat's major market, approximately 200,000 bags are traded weekly, with prices quoting at ₹85/110 per kg, depending on quality. Arrivals in Rajasthan's Ramganj market have gradually increased to 9,000/10,000 bags, with prices quoting at ₹80/95, depending on moisture. Arrivals in Kumbhraj, Neemuch, and Guna markets in Madhya Pradesh are gradually increasing, but new stock is currently experiencing a moisture content of 15/25 percent. The arrival of dry goods will begin after March 15th.
It is noteworthy that during the year 2024, coriander was sown on 3.64 lakh hectares in the country, which has decreased to 3.37 lakh hectares in the year 2025. According to information received from producing centers, the area under coriander cultivation in the country during the current season is estimated to be around 3 lakh hectares.
Production Estimates
Due to poor sowing at producing centers and crop damage caused by recent rains in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, it is expected that coriander production in the country during the current season will be around 90-95 lakh bags. Whereas last year's production was estimated at 1-1.10 crore bags (each bag weighing 40 kg). Production in the year 2024 was estimated at 1.20 crore bags and in the year 2023, production was estimated at 1.60 crore bags.
Low Stock
Due to the decline in coriander production in the country over the past three years, stocks are also declining. According to one estimate, the stock of coriander in the country was estimated to be 4.5 million to 5 million bags at the time of arrival of the new crop in 2024. This decreased to 3.5 million to 3.8 million bags in 2025. Reports indicate that stocks during the current season will be 2.2 million to 2.5 million bags.
Consumption and Availability
Informed sources indicate that the total availability of coriander will be lower than consumption during 2026. It is noteworthy that our annual coriander consumption, including domestic consumption and exports, is approximately 14 million to 15 million bags, but during the current season, the combined total of new production and outstanding stocks will be 11.5 million to 12 million bags.
Not Much Slowdown
Traders believe that coriander prices may see a significant increase during 2026. Currently, the price of coriander eagle is being quoted at Rs. 96/100 and that of almond at Rs. 90/95 per kg at producing centers. Prices may fall by Rs. 5/8 per kg in March if pressure from new arrivals builds. A further decline is unlikely.
Export
In the first eight months of the current financial year 2025-26, coriander exports increased by 12 percent and earnings increased by 14 percent. According to data released by the Spices Board, coriander exports in April-November 2025 amounted to 42,844 tons, with export revenue of Rs. 457.86 crore.
