Turmeric - Prices to Fall and Rise
28-Feb-2026 05:05 PM
New turmeric arrivals have begun in major turmeric-producing states. This year, the area under turmeric cultivation increased by 30-35 percent at growing centers.
However, adverse weather conditions after sowing resulted in 15-20 percent crop losses in the Nizamabad, Sangli, Hingoli, Basmat, and Nanded regions. However, exports from the Erode region are expected to be good.
Despite these losses, national turmeric production is projected to be higher than last year due to higher sowing in all states.
Consequently, national turmeric production during the current season is estimated to be around 80-82 lakh bags (each bag weighing 60 kg), compared to 72-75 lakh bags last year. Production in 2024 is projected to be 50-55 lakh bags.
During the current season, turmeric production on the Marathwada line (Basmat, Hingoli, Nanded) in Maharashtra is estimated to be 3.2-3.5 million bags. Production on the Sangli line is reported to be 1.0-1.2 million bags.
Production on the Erode and Salem lines is estimated to be 1.5-1.6 million bags. Production on the Nizamabad line is estimated to be 1.2-1.3 million bags, and in Warangal, 1.5-2 million bags.
Production on the Duggirala and Kadapa lines is estimated to be 2.5-3 million bags, and 5-6 million bags in other areas. Although production has increased, due to low outstanding stocks, prices are expected to rise significantly in 2026.
Currently, turmeric prices are being quoted softly, and a rise in prices is not anticipated. Turmeric arrivals will be in full swing on the Marathwada line in March. Marathwada region contributes 40 percent to turmeric production.
There was no significant increase in turmeric exports in the first eight months of the current season, due to which the export of turmeric during April-November-2025 was 1275.30 tonnes.
And the income received from export was Rs. 1951.34 crore. Whereas in April-November-2024, the export of turmeric was 12601 tonnes and the income received from export was Rs. 1984.47 crore.
During the year 2024-25, the total export of turmeric was 176325 tonnes. Whereas in the year 2020-21, a record export of turmeric was 183868 tonnes.
