Minor fluctuations in paddy and rice prices due to low supply and limited trading

New Delhi: Limited supplies of Basmati and 'A' Grade paddy are arriving at key markets in major producing states, and trading activity lacks significant momentum. Consequently, prices saw minor fluctuations of ₹100–200 per quintal during the week of July 18–24.
Arrivals
Paddy arrivals are primarily taking place in Bhatapara and Rajim (Chhattisgarh), Kota and Bundi (Rajasthan), and Shahjahanpur (Uttar Pradesh). At Delhi's Narela market, arrivals totaled 300–400 bags over two days before ceasing; prices there remained unchanged. Daily paddy arrivals were recorded as follows: 3,000–6,000 bags in Bhatapara, 6,000–10,000 bags in Rajim, 13,000–30,000 bags in Shahjahanpur, 3,000 bags in Bundi, 750–1,150 bags in Kota, and 3,000 bags in Gondia (Maharashtra). Sporadic arrivals were also reported in some markets across Uttar Pradesh.
Rice
Regarding rice, price fluctuations of ₹100–200 per quintal were observed across various centers. Uncertainty surrounding ship movements via the Strait of Hormuz has heightened concerns among Indian Basmati rice exporters, leading to reduced interest in domestic procurement. Export offer prices for non-Basmati rice are also rising due to specific factors. While massive stocks of Kharif-season rice exist, the supply and availability situation in the domestic market has become somewhat complex.
Punjab
Basmati rice prices in Amritsar, Punjab, softened by ₹100–200 per quintal. Delhi's new market remained largely quiet, and not much activity was observed in the town market of Uttarakhand either.
