Karachi: Rice exports from Pakistan to China witnessed a significant increase during 2025, reaching a total value of $62 million.
During this period, Chinese buyers focused particularly on importing semi-milled, fully milled, and broken rice. In total, approximately 158,000 tons of rice were exported from Pakistan to China in 2025.
China's Guangdong province emerged as the leading importer of Pakistani rice, purchasing over 62,000 tons worth more than $26 million.
This was followed by Beijing, which imported 43,000 tons valued at $15.48 million, while the remaining rice was imported by traders in other Chinese provinces. Imports are expected to continue in the current year.
According to trade analysts, Pakistani rice was available at competitive prices, the standards of rice milling from paddy have improved, and the supply is regular.
This has led to increased interest from Chinese traders in purchasing Pakistani rice. It is worth noting that China also imports rice from countries like Thailand, Vietnam, and Myanmar, and also from India.
While China is the world's top rice producer, it still requires significant imports because its total production falls short of domestic demand.
