Indian Ports Hold Over 13.11 Lakh Tonnes of Imported Pulses
Mumbai: As of March 10, 2025, Indian ports had a combined stock of 13,11,532 tonnes of yellow peas, red lentils, and desi gram. India primarily imports:
- Yellow peas from Canada and Russia
- Red lentils from Canada and Australia
- Desi gram from Australia and Tanzania
Stock Distribution at Major Ports:
1. Mundra Port (Gujarat) - 5,01,082 tonnes
- Yellow peas: 2,21,011 tonnes
- Red lentils: 40,177 tonnes
- Desi gram: 2,39,894 tonnes
2. Kandla Port (Gujarat) - 6,48,561 tonnes
- Yellow peas: 3,36,585 tonnes
- Red lentils: 1,25,062 tonnes
- Desi gram: 1,86,914 tonnes
3. Hazira Port - 1,61,889 tonnes
- Yellow peas: 1,40,695 tonnes
- Red lentils: 21,195 tonnes
Government Policy on Duty-Free Imports:
- Yellow Peas: Duty-free import extended till May 31, 2025
- Red Lentils: Likely to continue after March 31, 2025, but may face customs duty
- Desi Gram: Duty-free import ends March 31, 2025
Other Pulses in Imports:
- Urad: Imported from Myanmar and Brazil
- Tuvar: Sourced mainly from Myanmar and African nations
With ample stock at ports and policy changes ahead, the Indian pulses market remains well-supplied, though potential import duties may impact future pricing and availability.
