Rangoon. Official data shows that during the first quarter of the current financial year, from April to June 2025, Myanmar exported a total of 6.14 lakh tonnes of rice, earning $214 million.

This figure includes both whole and broken rice shipments. According to the Myanmar Rice Federation, exports in April stood at 1.43 lakh tonnes valued at $52 million, followed by 5.30 lakh tonnes worth $91 million in May and 2.12 lakh tonnes valued at $71 million in June.

The Myanmar Rice Federation has set an ambitious target of increasing rice exports to 30 lakh tonnes during the financial year 2025–26 (April–March). In the previous year, 2024–25, Myanmar exported 24.80 lakh tonnes of rice worth $1.129 billion.

That performance was boosted by high global rice prices, which are now witnessing a sharp decline. The fall in export offer prices may reduce earnings despite the increase in volumes.

To help achieve the new export target and streamline the export process, the Ministry of Commerce of Myanmar is working in coordination with several key institutions, including the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Myanmar Rice Federation, and other related organizations. The goal is to ensure smooth exports and support monthly targets.

In addition to rice, the Ministry of Commerce is also collaborating with relevant stakeholders to promote the export of other agricultural and food products.

Myanmar exports large quantities of rice to countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, China, and various European nations.

Rice remains the most important agricultural export product of Myanmar, supported by favorable production levels and strategic efforts to strengthen trade.
