Kharif Crop Acreage Rises Significantly in Telangana

Hyderabad. Sowing of Kharif crops has started gaining momentum in the South Indian state of Telangana with the help of late monsoon rains. In Telangana, one of the leading paddy and cotton producing states,

the total production area of Kharif crops this year increased to 91.53 lakh acres till August 6, which is 10.82 lakh acres more than the sowing area of 80.71 lakh acres during the same period last year.

Data from the state agriculture department shows that compared to last year, during the current Kharif season, the production area of paddy in Telangana jumped from 22.35 lakh acres to 30.16 lakh acres, the sowing area of maize increased from 3.98 lakh acres to 5.53 lakh acres,

while the area of ​​sorghum remained stable at 32 thousand acres. In this way, the total area of ​​paddy and coarse grains there jumped from 26.65 lakh acres to 36 lakh acres this time. The cultivation of Kharif crops and especially paddy is still going on in the state.

The area under pulses crops in Telangana has also improved from 4.95 lakh acres last year to 5.13 lakh acres this year. This is mainly due to Tuvar whose sowing area has increased from 4.13 lakh acres to 4.43 lakh acres.

On the other hand, the production area of moong has come down from 62 thousand acres to 52 thousand acres and the area of Urad has come down from 19 thousand acres to 17 thousand acres.

But the production area of oilseed crops in the state has come down from 3.80 lakh acres last year to 3.59 lakh acres this time.

Under this, especially the sowing area of soybean has come down from 3.68 lakh acres to 3.56 lakh acres. Apart from this, there has been a decline in the area of groundnut and the area of castor is lagging far behind.

Among cash or industrial crops, cotton production area in Telangana has increased to 43.71 lakh acres this time, which is 2.34 lakh acres more than last year's sowing area of 41.37 lakh acres. There has also been a good increase in the area under sugarcane.

Some parts of Telangana have received good rains in recent weeks, allowing farmers to speed up sowing of Kharif crops, but some districts are still feeling the lack of rain. Telangana is a leading state contributing paddy-rice to the central pool.
