Improved Shipments of Raw Cashews Boost Mozambique’s Agricultural Exports

Maputo. In the first half of the current year, Mozambique—an African nation—generated $82.9 million from the export of raw cashews. Although this figure represents a 17 percent decline compared to the same period last year, raw cashews remained the largest contributor to the country’s total agricultural exports.

Data released by Mozambique’s Ministry of Agriculture indicates that the country’s total agricultural exports for the first half of the current year reached $108.5 million (€92.8 million)—a 5 percent increase over the $103.2 million (€88.3 million) recorded during the corresponding period in the previous year.

In terms of export volume, Mozambique’s raw cashew exports rose from 73,391 tonnes in the first half of the previous year to 74,664 tonnes in the current period; however, lower offer prices led to a significant drop in export revenue. Vietnam and India remained the primary importers of these cashews.
