Good crop progress continues for Kabuli chickpeas in Canada and the US.

Saskatoon: The markets for both Kabuli and Desi chickpeas remain relatively quiet. Weather conditions have been largely favorable for Kabuli chickpea crops in Canada and the US, and for Desi chickpea crops in Australia,

ensuring uninterrupted progress; however, the risk of pest and disease outbreaks persists. Chickpea production in Australia is expected to fall below normal levels and be significantly lower than last year's output.

Australia is the leading exporter of Desi chickpeas. A decline in Australian production, coupled with sustained demand from India, could keep global market prices for this key pulse elevated and firm.

This trend is also likely to have a somewhat positive impact on Kabuli chickpea prices. The situation in Mexico remains largely stable, with regular exports of Kabuli chickpeas taking place; some significant deals were concluded there last week.

Exports from Canada are also continuing, even as the arrival of the new crop approaches. Australia’s exportable stocks of Desi chickpeas are running low, as large quantities have already been shipped.
