Yellow Pea Prices Likely to Strengthen in Coming Months

Regina. Pea prices in Western Canadian markets remain largely subdued or stable, with trading activity currently limited. Although the area sown with green peas has declined by approximately 10 percent compared to last year, total availability for the 2026-27 marketing season is projected to rise by 6 percent, driven by normal yield rates and substantial carryover stocks.
As for yellow peas, the sown area has decreased by 16 percent, and carryover stocks are low due to strong export performance. Should production prove weak, total availability could see a sharp decline, providing significant support to market prices.
It is worth noting that India imports only yellow peas, whereas China and other nations import green and maple peas alongside yellow peas.
While Canada faces stiff competition from Russia in the global pea export market, yellow pea prices are nonetheless expected to strengthen in the coming months.
