Global Oilseed Production Projected to Reach Around 733.5 Million Tonnes

Washington: In its September report, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) projected that total global oilseed production for the 2026-27 season would rise to 723.46 million tonnes—an increase of approximately 2.5 million tonnes over the 721 million tonnes estimated in the August report. This growth is primarily driven by increased production of rapeseed and sunflower.

The global production estimate for rapeseed has been raised by 1.9 million tonnes, with upward revisions specifically for Australia and Russia. Production estimates for Kazakhstan and Uruguay have also seen slight increases. Similarly, the global sunflower production estimate has been raised by 1 million tonnes, reflecting expectations of improved output in Kazakhstan, Russia, and the European Union.

The USDA report also raised estimates for global soybean production, exports, and crushing for the 2026-27 season. However, due to projected increases in consumption, the estimate for ending stocks has been lowered. The September report projects global soybean production at 442.3 million tonnes, up by 0.1 million tonnes from the August figure; this reflects upward revisions for the US and Canada, alongside downward revisions for India and the European Union.

In its August report, the USDA had projected global soybean exports of 190.41 million tonnes for the 2026-27 season; this figure was raised to 191.58 million tonnes in the September report. Export estimates were increased for the US, Canada, Benin, and Ukraine, while import estimates were raised for the European Union, India, and Japan. Global soybean ending stocks for the marketing season are projected to stand at 124 million tonnes.
