London: The International Grains Council (IGC) has raised its global maize production forecast for the 2026-27 season by 10 million tonnes to 1.31 billion tonnes, citing improved crop prospects in Argentina and India; however, this figure remains below the estimated production of 1.339 billion tonnes for the 2025-26 season.
For the 2026-27 season, Argentina's maize production forecast has been increased by 4 million tonnes to 63.0 million tonnes, up from the earlier estimate of 59.0 million tonnes (production in the 2025-26 season was estimated at 70.0 million tonnes).
Similarly, India's maize production forecast has been raised from 46.8 million tonnes to 52.0 million tonnes, though this is still 3.1 million tonnes lower than the estimated 55.1 million tonnes for 2025-26.
The Council notes that global weather uncertainty persists, meaning production forecasts for major agricultural commodities—such as wheat, rice, and soybeans, alongside maize—could be subject to revision.
