Urad market softens due to profit-booking and weak buying
Chennai: The domestic Urad market witnessed a downward trend during the current week. Prices remained under pressure due to increased profit-booking at higher levels and limited buyer activity. The market failed to receive adequate support as dal mills restricted their purchases to immediate requirements only. Demand for Urad dal remains normal, causing millers to avoid large-scale buying. A soft market sentiment prevails due to limited buying interest and increased selling pressure. Market experts state that unless there is a significant improvement in demand for Urad dal, the likelihood of a sharp rise in prices remains low. However, the market is keeping a close watch on the progress of the monsoon in producing regions and the status of Kharif Urad sowing. If weather conditions turn adverse and sowing is affected, market sentiment could strengthen in the future. Due to a slowdown in selling by importers and improved buying interest, Chennai Urad prices recorded a decline of ₹100 per quintal this week; consequently, prices settled at ₹8,025 per quintal for FAQ and ₹8,950 per quintal for SQ varieties.
Burma
