Rangoon. Exports of Urad (black gram) and Tur (pigeon pea) from India's northeastern neighbor—Myanmar—are currently running slightly behind last year's levels.
Data from industry and trade associations reveals that during the first five months of the current year—specifically January to May 2026—Myanmar exported 325,491 tonnes of Urad. This figure is 43,980 tonnes lower than the 369,471 tonnes shipped during the corresponding months of the previous year.
It is noteworthy that over the entire calendar year of 2025, Myanmar exported a total of 846,000 tonnes of Urad, a volume lower than the 904,000 tonnes shipped in 2024. The majority of Urad exports from Myanmar are directed to India, where demand appears somewhat subdued this season.
As for Tur, total exports from Myanmar during the five-month period of January to May 2026 declined to 105,793 tonnes. This represents a shortfall of approximately 47,000 tonnes compared to the 153,097 tonnes shipped during the same period in 2025.
From January to December 2025, Myanmar exported a total of approximately 366,000 tonnes of Tur, whereas the volume exported throughout the entirety of 2024 stood at around 300,000 tonnes.
India also remains the primary destination for Tur exports from Myanmar. During May 2025, Myanmar shipped approximately 65,000 tonnes of Urad and slightly over 17,000 tonnes of Tur.
