Winnipeg. In March 2026, Canada—the United States' neighbor—exported approximately 28,000 tons of Kabuli chickpeas; this figure represents a 16 percent (or 4,000-ton) increase over the 24,000 tons shipped in February. In March, Pakistan emerged as the top destination for Canadian Kabuli chickpeas,
importing nearly 12,000 tons, while the United States ranked second with imports totaling 5,000 tons. Italy secured the third position, importing approximately 2,000 tons of Kabuli chickpeas from Canada during the month. The remainder of the exports was distributed among other countries.
During the first eight months of the current marketing season—spanning from August 2025 to March 2026—Canada exported a total of approximately 168,000 tons of Kabuli chickpeas.
This volume marks an increase of 33,000 tons compared to the 135,000 tons shipped during the corresponding period of the 2024–25 marketing season. Sowing of the chickpea crop has already commenced in Canada, and the harvesting and processing of the new crop are scheduled to take place in August and September.
