Claim: Farmers' Income More Than Doubled Over Ten Years

New Delhi. NITI Aayog has claimed that, over the past decade, the income of Indian farmers has increased by more than double. In 2016-17, the Prime Minister had articulated the slogan of doubling farmers' income, and the government immediately initiated vigorous efforts in this direction. This target was achieved within just a few years, thereby strengthening the economic condition of the farmers.
According to NITI Aayog, over the last 10 years, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all listed crops witnessed a substantial increase, and government agencies procured these crops in massive quantities from farmers at these enhanced rates.
While government procurement of paddy and wheat has taken place regularly every year, significant procurement of pulses, oilseeds, and cotton was also undertaken during this period. The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane was regularly increased, and necessary measures were implemented to ensure the timely payment of outstanding dues.
Farmers derived substantial benefits from the Price Support Scheme through the extensive procurement of pulse crops—including Gram, Masur, Tur, Urad, and Moong—as well as oilseed crops such as Mustard, Soybean, and Groundnut.
While it is true that the cost of production for various crops increased during this period, the government made vigorous efforts to contain these costs by keeping the prices of chemical fertilizers stable through subsidies.
