Cyclone Arnab Causes Massive Damage in Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada. Cyclone Arnab, a severe cyclonic storm that originated in the Bay of Bengal, has proven devastating, particularly for Andhra Pradesh. The state is estimated to have suffered losses amounting to approximately ₹4,600 crore (46 billion rupees). The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh stated that this is an initial assessment, and the figure could rise further once the full extent of the damage becomes clear.

Notably, Cyclone Arnab made its initial landfall along the coast of Andhra Pradesh, where it was at its most intense and destructive. During a press conference in the Konaseema district, the Chief Minister mentioned that the Central Government has been fully briefed on the extensive damage caused by the cyclone, as well as the precautionary measures taken by the state government to mitigate its impact.

The Central Government has promised to dispatch a team to the affected areas and provide all possible assistance based on their report. The Chief Minister announced compensation of ₹1,500 per tree for coconut and oil palm trees destroyed by the cyclone. Additionally, affected individuals have been provided with 25 kg of rice and kits containing other essential supplies.

For other crops, farmers will receive an advance payment from their crop insurance, and appropriate compensation will be provided for crops damaged by the storm. In Andhra Pradesh, the cyclone has caused significant damage to both horticultural and Kharif crops.
