Central Schemes Expected to Gain Momentum in Bengal

Kolkata: Following the change of power in West Bengal, numerous central schemes—which had previously been kept on hold—are likely to be implemented. Additionally, several new schemes may be formulated specifically for the state.

West Bengal is a major producer of rice, jute, and tea, while also yielding substantial harvests of mustard among oilseed crops and lentils among pulses. Although the state's agricultural sector has witnessed significant progress in recent years, relatively little attention has been paid to crop diversification.

It is anticipated that the 'New Developed India Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission' will be effectively implemented in Bengal. This is expected to provide substantial relief to agricultural laborers as well as workers in other categories. The flow of funds for central schemes and programs within the state—which had been withheld for several years—is now set to increase.

Special emphasis is also likely to be placed on the growth and expansion of industries and businesses in West Bengal, thereby boosting the state's revenue and generating new employment opportunities. Much like other states, Bengal too faces the challenges of unemployment and poverty. Now, central food grain supplies will be able to reach the state.
