New Delhi. The Central Government has reiterated its commitment to purchase 100% of pigeon pea (tur) produced by farmers under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 7550 per quintal. The deadline for procurement in Andhra Pradesh has been extended by one month, from April 22 to May 22, 2025.
According to the Union Agriculture Ministry, over 3.92 lakh tonnes of tur has been procured so far from more than 2.56 lakh farmers across key producing states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Gujarat.
The government agencies NAFED and NCCF are carrying out procurement from both mandis and farmers registered on the e-Samriddhi and e-Samyukti portals.
The ministry has approved a total procurement of 13.22 lakh tonnes of tur for the 2024-25 Kharif marketing season.
While the general procurement window is three months, Andhra Pradesh has been given a four-month period due to extended harvesting.
Currently, wholesale prices of tur in most major mandis are ranging from Rs 6200 to Rs 7000 per quintal, which is below the MSP. Prices remain under pressure due to strong domestic production and heavy imports.
Meanwhile, the duty-free import of tur and urad has been extended till March 31, 2026, and export prices of lemon tur from Myanmar for May delivery have dropped to $815 per tonne, including shipping.
