Weekly Review - Wheat
Despite the peak festive season, wheat prices remain buoyant
New Delhi. Following Durga Puja, the country is gearing up for Diwali, but wheat prices haven't seen any significant increase. Major wholesale markets are experiencing normal wheat arrivals, and stock limits remain in place for this crucial food.
Increase in MSP
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has not yet initiated the sale of wheat from its stocks through the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS), yet prices remain under pressure. Furthermore, the significant increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for wheat by the government for the upcoming Rabi marketing season is not having any positive psychological impact on its market price.
Price
During the week of October 11-17, wheat prices remained stable at the previous level of Rs. 2800/2825 per quintal in Delhi, with daily arrivals of 6,000-7,000 bags.
Gujarat/MP
In a weak Gujarat market, wheat prices rose by ₹100 to ₹3,200 per quintal, but remained stable at ₹2,500. Wheat prices remained slightly soft in Madhya Pradesh's Dabra and Itarsi markets, but improved by ₹50 to ₹2,420/₹3,150 per quintal in Ujjain.
Rajasthan
There was some improvement in Rajasthan's markets. Wheat prices rose by ₹100 to ₹2,450/₹2,600 per quintal in Kota market and by ₹20 to ₹2,460/₹2,540 per quintal in Bundi market.
Uttar Pradesh
Wheat prices either remained stable at previous levels or softened slightly in most markets in Uttar Pradesh. Only in Mainpuri did it improve by ₹30 to ₹2,501 per quintal.
Maharashtra
Prices softened by ₹50 in Maharashtra's Jalna market. In most major markets, the price of wheat has fallen to around or below the minimum support price, which may affect its sowing.
