Wheat prices rise due to low arrival and strong demand in the markets
New Delhi. Despite the possibility of record domestic production of more than 1129 lakh tonnes of wheat expressed by the Union Agriculture Ministry, neither could there be a significant increase in the government procurement of this important food grain nor could the supply and availability situation in the wholesale markets become easy. Flour millers and trading firms also have limited stock of wheat left. Due to low arrival and strong demand in the markets, the price of wheat remained high during the week of June 1-7. Government procurement of wheat has almost stopped.
Delhi
During the week under review, the price of wheat from UP / Rajasthan in Delhi increased by Rs 75 to Rs 2640/2650 per quintal. Its arrival was 8500 bags on June 1, which decreased to 5 thousand bags by June 7. The price of wheat in Gujarat remained at the previous level.
Madhya Pradesh
In Madhya Pradesh, its price in Indore increased by Rs 125 to Rs 2400/3000 per quintal but fell by Rs 300 in Dewas. There was a rise of Rs 50 each in Dabra and Khandwa. The price also increased by Rs 35 in Itarsi. There was a rise of Rs 50 each in Tukda and Khadwa. The price also increased by Rs 35 in Itarsi but softened by Rs 20 in Harda Mandi. The price of wheat remained stable in Ujjain and Bhopal.
Rajasthan
A mixed trend was seen in the price of wheat in Rajasthan. There, its price softened by Rs 50 in Kota Mandi but improved by Rs 25 each in Baran and Bundi. Earlier, 11 thousand sacks of wheat were arriving daily in Kota Mandi, which later reduced to 7500 sacks. Uttar Pradesh
Wholesale market price of wheat in Uttar Pradesh increased by 10 to 60 rupees per quintal. In Gorakhpur, its price increased by 60 rupees to 2420 rupees per quintal.
Import
Flour millers are demanding permission from the government to import wheat duty free. They hope that the new government will consider it seriously. Farmers are not ready to sell their wheat at low prices.
