No possibility of slowdown in red chilli: Sowing less at production centres

New Delhi. Currently, the prices of red chilli are being quoted strongly. Sources say that although China is not buying in the market, but due to equal buying from Bangladesh, the prices of red chilli Teja quality have remained strong after a rise of 8/10 rupees per kg during the last one month. Sources believe that there is no possibility of slowdown in the current prices of red chilli. Because there is a shortage of good quality goods in the markets of production centres. Apart from this, there are reports of reduction in the sowing area of red chilli at production centres this year.
Less sowing
There are reports of reduction in sowing of red chilli in the country for the second year as well due to producers not getting proper price for their produce. It is worth mentioning that sowing work has been completed in Madhya Pradesh. This year, the sowing of red chilli in Madhya Pradesh has been 30/40 percent less. The arrival of new red chilli in Madhya Pradesh will start in the month of October. The work of sowing red chilli has started in full swing in the major producing states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, but due to water shortage and low prices, it is expected that the sowing of red chilli in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will be 30/35 percent less. The arrival of new crop in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will start in January-February.
Production will decrease
Informed sources say that due to the decline in sowing area, the production of red chilli in the coming year will also be less. It is noteworthy that during 2024, the production of red chilli in Madhya Pradesh was 40/42 lakh bags, which has come down to 35/36 lakh bags in 2025, the coming crop is expected to be even less.
In the major producer state of Andhra Pradesh, the production of red chilli was 2 crore bags (each bag is 45 kg) during 2024, which decreased to around 1.50 crore bags in the year 2025. In Telangana too, the production of red chilli during 2025 is estimated to be 60/65 lakh bags, whereas in the year 2024 the production was 75/80 lakh bags.
Stock
Although the stock of red chilli is sufficient in the mandis of the producing centers, the stock of good quality goods is less. According to the information received, the stock of red chilli in the mandis of Andhra Pradesh is estimated to be 75/80 lakh bags. Whereas the stock in the mandis of Telangana is believed to be 40/45 lakh bags.
Slowdown-Rise
Informed sources believe that there is no possibility of recession in the current prices of red chilli. But there is no possibility of much rise right now. During the current month, the prices of red chilli will remain between Rs 3/5 per kg. If the export demand increases, then the prices may increase by Rs 8/10 per kg, but there is no possibility of recession in the current prices as the arrival in the markets has also started decreasing, apart from this, the prices are also running lower than last year. Last year, the price of red chilli Teja in the markets was being quoted at Rs 190/200 per kg, whereas at present the price is Rs 138/140.
